Publisher's Synopsis

Frank Darabont's screenplay is a faithful adaptation of Stephen King's story set, during the Great Depression, on the death-row block at Cold Mountain Correctional Facility. The name "the Green Mile" is derived from the trip to the electric chair which is known as "walking the mile" and in the prison the floor leading to the chair is covered in green tiles. Starring Tom Hanks as the film's narrator, the superintendent of the prison who tells the story of a mysterious inmate, a prisoner with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, who is alledgedly guilty of murdering two little girls. Whilst awaiting his execution, the mysterious inmate displays odd supernatural powers, that cause his fellow inmates and guards to question their beliefs about everything they hold dear.
