The Olympics is a gathering of the best international athletes in various sporting events that are held in the summer or wintertime. It features many sporting competitions with thousands of athletes from around the world competing against each other. It is considered the world's foremost sporting competition and it is held every four years with the Summer and Winter games running alternating every four years but two years apart. The idea of the games was inspired by ancient Olympic games that were held in Olympia, Greece. They were held between the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD and in 1894 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was established to govern the Olympic movement.
