Publisher's Synopsis

This work traces the history of the Gould family living in Boston for three hundred years, from 1687 to 1989, for thirteen generations of the name, from Thomas Gould to Lloyd T Gould, born in Boston 28 May 1988. Its purpose is to resolve a long-standing question about the ancestry of a family which was in Boston at the time of the Revolution, that of James Gould, wheelwright for the Revolutionary Army and builder of the first bridge across the Charles River, in 1785-8, and father of Thomas Gould, member of the first Boston City Council in 1827, abolitionist founder of Tremont Temple and his son Thomas who was builder of early Boston railway equipment and stations.
