When one thing is not merely compared to another, but spoken of as if it were that other, we have the figure known as metaphor. This, if the meaning is not obscure, is a more forcible figure than Simile, as it enables the poet to put his idea in a condensed, almost telegraphic, form. When Keats says (p. 75)
