Publisher's Synopsis
Four internal monologues: Venice, The Absolute, Joy, The Philosopher; the narrator travels to Venice and finds a woman who seems the very embodiment of Venice itself, but will he stay with her or return home to his childhood love, the girl who lived next door? The narrator meets a woman on the beach, but as their relationship evolves he must contend with her two sisters and her possessive mother. The narrator philosopher follows the sinuous line of his own thoughts as he tries to find the Absolute he is certain exists, but when he finds this Absolute discovers that it reveals itself in a form he had never expected. Joy: how deep is Joy? Is it deeper, far deeper than sorrow?
