As this account of the Geology of Sidmouth and the surrounding district is purposed to he of a local nature, it is not necessary to enter upon the subject generally as a science. Assuming, therefore, that our readers may already be possessed of at least some insight into its acquaintanceship, we shall mainly discuss certain geological changes which have taken place in the south-eastern part of the county of Devon, how these changes have wrought upon the external features of the country, and then direct attention to 'such circumstances as may be of more particular interest.
