Publisher's Synopsis

This book contains five chapters that detail the future of cropping systems. Chapter One aims to quantify the effect of photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) heterogeneity within a greenhouse on the growth of Impatiens walleriana plants. It also evaluates the effect of limiting root growth during nursery on post-transplant biomass accumulation. Chapter Two attempts to determine the physiological mechanism triggered in the plant Impatiens walleriana when sprayed with essential amino acid solutions combined with synthetic cytokinins or auxins. Chapter Three's objective was to quantify the absolute and relative effects of spraying during nursery with a synthetic cytokinin or an inhibitor of endogenous cytokinin synthesis on the specialty cut flower Limonium sinuatum. Chapter Four discusses the effects of pre-transplant cell size and benzyl aminopurine spraying on biomass accumulation in brussels sprouts. Lastly, Chapter Five shows that auxin pathways could explain, at least in part, the stress-induced changes in the plant architecture and growth patterns of I. walleriana.
