Publisher's Synopsis
In the beautiful North Yorkshire Dales, a wartime relationship develops between Land Girl Ruth Palmer and captured German flier Holger Fichtmuller. This almost unthinkable affair transcends the prejudices of two nations locked in world combat. Kept apart for more than two years, the couple correspond through a sympathetic chaplain. When, eventually, Holger is transferred to Yorkshire, fortune seems to favour the lovers, despite family opposition. However, as an Allied victory in Europe finally approaches, news of death camp atrocities brings a crisis of conscience to Holger.
