1904. A three-act play that takes place in Florence in the year 1545. Two of the characters include Benvenuto Cellini at age forty five and Cosimo De Medici, the Duke of Florence. Act I, Scene I opens in the dining-hall in the house of Jacopo Pontormo, a painter, in Florence. It is about four in the afternoon. In gay attire, all (Pontormo and his guests) are seated about a table. The repast completed, a servant is kept busy refilling glasses.
