Publisher's Synopsis

The story begins in the 32nd century (ca. 12 century atomic era) in an alternative universe, in Alpha Centauri. System. It describes, in part the crew discussions on the starship Cochrane, in particular Patria Silverstone, 3rd stage lensman. On course to Neptune, the craft and crew is attacked by an enemy alien warship. Employing increasingly developed faster-than-light space drives, the Cochrane leaves the Milky Way galaxy, heading for the Andromeda Galaxy, over 2 million light years distant, where they encounter alien civilisations and beings. Obtaining even more advanced technology, the Cochrane heads for the Virgo Cluster of galaxies 40 million light years distant. The Cochrane has also travelled forward 40 million years atomic era - but the crew eventually make it back to the Milky Way Galaxy and Neptune, 10 million years atomic era. There is the introduction of Dar, 4th stage lensman, time-traveller and spirit guide from the year 23 million, and his companion 4.3 stage lensman Del from year 28 million. The crew explore a terraformed earth-like Neptune with its numerous tunnels and mazes, providing the technology to return to their home space-time. The final 2 chapters are speculations by Patria, Dar, Del, the ship's computer and the author.
