The First National Bank of Happenstance is a story about chance. This story begins of all places in a vault, a bank vault that is where people keep gold, silver or diamonds and money lots and lots of money. However, these are not the only types of valuables people keep. For example, the standards of measurement of length and weight are kept in a vault somewhere, in France. I believe, and every country has an official copy tucked away. Furthermore, dangerous goods, such as fire arms and weapons are kept locked away. However, there are still other types, which are more important than these. There are valuables of thought such as books, and documents such as the Constitution. Furthermore, there are valuables of ideas like the things we believe and hold as true. Some of these are nearer and dear to us that any bag of gold. It is this type of theft, from the vault in the First National Bank of Happenstance that is the subject of this story. Yes, it was from right there in that vault, in the middle of the night, that a long skinny hand of Hapless Happenstance Henry reached into a safety deposit box and removed the town's most precious goods.
