Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation: May 14, 1940

The most pronounced gains in exports occurred in soybeans and soybean oil, coconut oil, and cottonseed oil. Exports of lard in the first quarter this year were little different from those of a year earlier.

Factory and warehouse stocks of primary fats and oils increased 6 ing the quarter under review, and on March 31, 19m0, totaled approximately million pounds, 157 million pound or 7 percent, more than a year earlier. Stocks of lard, tallow, and greases were considerably in excess of those of a year earlier, but stocks of butter and whale oil were smaller.
