Hemingway's not entirely child-appropriate children's story was originally published in 1951 in 'Holiday' magazine, rebutting the popular children's book 'The Story of Ferdinand' (1936), and was later collected in 'The Complete Short Stories' in 1987. Thus this is the second printing of the short story, the melancholic tale of a bull who liked to fight but who would only mate with the cow he loved and thus ends up in the bull ring, evocatively illustrated by Michael Foreman.
