Though well accustomed in a stormy land to the roar of the wind, the wedding company yet stood as if turned to stone by the sudden stoppage in the ceremony. Glance sought glance in puzzled questioning, till at length in a lull Of the wind they caught the sound which the vicar had heard long before. It was the clucking of a hen who announces the arrival of an egg. The next moment the parson had thrust the ring into the bridegroom's hand, and was hurrying down the nave in the direction of the door.
