Publisher's Synopsis
Hans Olofson tragically lost both his best friend and his lover. Alone and adrift, his only desire is to fulfil his lover's dream and visit the grave of a missionary who survived alone in the hills of Northern Zambia. On reaching Africa, Olofson is captivated by its beauty, and an opportunity of employment tempts him to stay. Taking responsibility for the farm he manages, he battles with a hostile environment and a resistant workforce. As he descends into near mental collapse, it becomes clear that many years in a foreign land do not necessarily breed an understanding of its people, and that a few generations of white settlers cannot change a continent underpinned by myth and superstition.
