Publisher's Synopsis

Leofric, first Bishop of Exeter (died 1072) bequeathed to the cathedral library the "Exeter Book", one of four great surviving miscellanies of old English poetry. It contains 96 riddles (with the earliest dating from first half of 8th century). This volume contains 75 in the main text - all those that aren't either very badly damaged or hopelessly obscure. The notes (which provide an answer or answers to each of the riddles) include translations of 16 of the remaining riddles.
