Publisher's Synopsis
This book discusses the development of the European Community, both in terms of an unfolding sequence of events, and in terms of some of the more important interconnections between these events. It concentrates on four major aspects of the European Community: internal policy; inter-institutional battles; issues surrounding the Community's external persona; and the question of the geographical scope of the Community. These topics are examined through an historical account of the Community's development from 1968 up to the present day. The book attempts to make sense of the constantly changing and often ambiguous set of relationships which make up the European Community.
