Everyone working in health services needs to be well informed about elderly people, their health and social problems and the services that may be of use. This book is written for a multidisciplinary readership, particularly medical, nursing, occupational and physiotherapy students. The first section deals with gerontology - the science of ageing - highlighting information relevant to clinical practice. The second section covers the medicine of old age, both psychiatry and geriatric medicine, and also provides background on the social context within which such problems arise. The third section is about the organization of health care for elderly people, taking a look at old people in different settings such as accident and emergency, primary care, institutional care and finishes with a review of the roles of the different members of the health care team.
