NO argument is so common on the lips of the Opponents of Woman Suffrage as that women cannot be emancipated, for they have never been slaves. Those who make this statement can have little knowledge of the facts of history. I shall show in' these pages that, so far from having en joyed freedom, women have for more than two hundred years been struggling against the egoism Of the male sex; that the inferiority which want Of physical strength has imposed Upon them has been aggravated by religion, by law, and by custom; that they have had to contend, always against the indifference, Often against the active prejudice, con tempt, and jealousy of men to Obtain education.
