Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Edinburgh Review, or Critical Journal, Vol. 218: July, 1913-October, 1913

The new vigour of elementary education was supplemented by the awakening of secondary education. The Endowed Schools Act, 1869, aroused from their long sleep the Elizabethan and later schools, and in thirty years these foundations were in full usefulness once more and at last provided for girls as well as boys.
