The defects in the harbour and in the adjacent ground determined the governor to seek another situation; and he resolved to examine Port Jackson, the harbour mentioned by Cook as immediately on the north of Botany Bay. But that no time might be lost in the event of dis appointment, the most elevated piece of ground in the neighbourhood was ordered to be cleared, and preparations to be made for landing.
