They tell of his aspirations, his iron business, his financial troubles and a trip he took to the far reaches of Michigan to visit a copper mine. The editor supplements his letters with information about the family members mentioned and annotates the letters with some details about important people and places. Volume 2 letters cover Col. Samuel Morris Wickersham's involvement in the Civil War effort and some details about the remainder of his interesting life.
