Bookseller Notes

A philosophical short story, which begins in a zoological laboratory - where a young Cambridge graduate, Juan Martafax, is, haplessly, attempting to reanimate a dead animal (unspecified). From his failure materialises a visit from a 'tall dark figure', named as 'the Stranger [...] Diaphantus', with whom he journeys to the 'First World' (a desert in which are the origins of life) and the 'Third World', the realm of 'the superman', in order to comprehend the two poles of human evolution.Straus was born in Manchester, and studied at Pembroke College, Cambridge; he came to have a high standing in literary circles, predominantly as a critic - this is early work, and scarce - only UEA outside of the legal deposit libraries on LibraryHub.
