Liz finds out that she and her brother, Liam, are what some people call Chosen, those of whom are more effective at fighting demons, and is taken to the capital of Alyspar. There, she learns the Queen plans to sacrifice her to kill Xanedur, a greater demon. Princess Arabella, a Royal Guard in training, Liam, and she escape from Alyspar and travel to Cujan, where they begin to be escorted to the Cujan Cabinet in order to explain Alyspar's sacrifice technique of banishing greater demons, which is considered illegal and immoral.
Throughout the journey, Liz learns more about herself, her family, and her destiny. They meet Liz's true brother, Michael, who joins them on their journey.
