Publisher's Synopsis
Osip Pyatnitsky, a highly-placed official in the Communist Party, who had been jailed under the czars and played a courageous part in the 1917 revolution, fell foul of Stalin without warning and was arrested in July 1937. His wife kept this diary of the family's persecution from the date of Osip's arrest until her own arrest in May 1938. She died in 1940. The journal presents a harrowing picture of Stalinist brutality, and is unique of its kind.
