Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Design Collection: Selected Objects
The archeologists would probably also observe that object-using humans had group preoccupations. One group was concerned first of all with the manner in which separate parts are joined together. For such people a design must have been valuable according to the number of opportunities it afforded to connect different parts, preferably made of different materials. A second group evidently valued objects of minimal incident: few parts, no joints, and if possible no clue as to what purpose the object might have served.
