Publisher's Synopsis
William Penfold and his cousin, Edward, head to the small country village of Point Mercy. On their approach, they come across one odd acting young man who had just left an empty, snow-covered field with a shovel. It would be easy for the police to come to the conclusion that this Jerome fellow had been responsible for the death of a woman - found in that field soon after - had it not been the case that he, too, was found dead only a day later. The question that baffles this case is; have these murders been staged as incredulous suicides or suicides staged as elaborate murders? As time goes by, the deaths become more gruesome and the police lose hope of catching this killer, if there even is one. William happily steps in to perform his own investigation in the only way he knows how before the entire village is wiped out. The King is Enthroned and the Wives die one by one.
