Publisher's Synopsis
Constantina and Josephina have recently lost their dictatorial tyrant of a father and are now deciding what to do with his things, and how to manage the household that they find themselves in charge of. Constantina thinks that they should give his top hat to the porter but Joesphina disagrees. They then begin to think about the last time they saw their father, when his last contact with them was a steely glare at each before dying. They had invited Nurse Andrews, who had tended to him, to stay on at the house for a week after his death, but now they are regretting the invitation because she eats too much and is annoying them. A local clergyman, Mr Farolles, comes to the house to see the girls. He will be arranging the funeral and suggests that they take Communion to make themselves feel better but they politely turn him down.
