Publisher's Synopsis
In my town Nuke, my mother used to always tell me that I was worth her time. Of course, I thought I was. My mother had died from a man kneeling on her neck and accusing her of being a thief. I never would have thought my sweet caring mother would steal a diamond necklace for herself. She was greedy, but not that greedy to steal something for herself we would never be able to afford. I still sit in my bed hugging my pillow and looking out my window at the trees moving in the wind. The leaves fall from the birds landing on the undersized branches they wrap their feet around, and the grass swaying. Soon, I fell asleep writing my notes for school. The school has been separated for over a century because of our different skin color. I have always asked my grandma why they do this. Why they change what we eat, the seats we sit in...She never tells me.
