Publisher's Synopsis

The door opens at Big Emma's, a Victorian bar at Jack London Square in Oakland. A figure in a gabardine raincoat enters out of the dense fog. It's the Chameleon, a shape-shifting figure with many disguises but one aim: to kill PI Jim Wolf. So begins a case that leads Wolf to Larry Eagle, the spokesman for the Indian casinos, Vito Pagnini, a Vegas mobster, and Max Bronstein, a greedy casino billionaire. Wolf is joined in the hunt by Victoria Renard, a beautiful TV reporter. Bronstein, out to influence national politics, needs the Mafia's money but must wipe out any trace of his crime connections. Jim Wolf is caught in the crosshairs. He almost dies in a shootout on a rainy night at the Windmill in Golden Gate Park.
