Leslie Anne Brennemann gets expelled from school, for breaking into an old computer in search of the truth. She was told by a secret source, that she could learn about her family, and it could help her on her quest to understand why she was so different. She grew up with orange hair and freckles, and people just don't look like her in Hyannis Nebraska. Her friends in school think she is a crack baby, and she may have been kidnapped as an infant. That made sense to her on multiple levels. When she finally discovers who her biological mother is, she inadvertently uncovers that none of her aunts are related, and her grandmothers had secret lives. She only finds out about her adopted mother's past, when secret service agents arrive for her funeral. Her kind and innocent mother, had gone into space, physically stopped a saboteur, and foiled his plans to kill everyone on board a space ship. She saved over a thousand people. Both of her mothers met on that doomed space craft, and the series of events that followed, were what stranded Leslie on a forsaken dude ranch, in the middle of nowhere, and entangled their lives forever. This is the catalyst that sends her into a writing frenzy, and transforms her into the curious waitress.
