British writer and novelist Frank Thomas Bullen was born on April 5, 1857 to impoverished parents in Paddington, London, and attended school in Westbourne, Paddington. The school received several years of education. He dropped out of school at the age of 9 and started working as an errand. In 1869, when he was disarmed and incapacitated under Captain John RH Ward, he set out to sea in various capacities, including Second Class Officer of the Herald and Dawn. First class officers traveled all over the world.
