One aspect of the French Revolution that has been largely neglected by historians is the nature of the revolutionary crowd. The present study presents the Parisian revolutionary crowd throughout the period 1787-1795, showing how it behaved, how it was composed, how it was drawn into activity, what it set out to achieve, and how far its aims were realized.
