The form and colouring of the dresses in the draw ings, are faithfully copied from the plates in the collec tion lately published in Vienna, under the title of costumes des etats DE l'empereur, - Dresses of the States of the Emperor. We have to boast, how. Ever, of the talents of much more skilful engravers we have arranged our plates in a better order, and enriched the description of them with many historical, geographical, topographical, and satistical remarks, not to be found in the German work, which give to this a new degree ofinterest and utility, that it ought to possess. In order that nothing might be wanting to the composition, we solicited the assistance of bere rand DE moleville, who has devoted some of his leisure hours to this undertaking. The esteem which this faithful Minister of the unfortunate Louis XVI. Has acquired, not only as a statesman but as a writer, makes it unnecessary to dwell on the merit of any work published under his name.
