Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Conversations of Padan Aram
The only Padan Aram I ever heard of as lying north of the Tweed is barely large enough to house all Mr. Donald's characters (and you shall search long in it for his "manse," with which it should have begun): one may surmise that he liked the name and did some juggling with the local sign-posts. Wherever his Padan Aram is it is certainly a place he knows well and loves much; his pages are full of "homely sense and shrewd," and we become so familiar with his people, as they move leisurely thro' his pages that we feel we have chatted with them at their doors or called to them in their fields.
