Alexis Kandilis is an international conductor at the height of his profession. He receives standing ovations at every concert and wildly enthusiastic reviews. Yet on a personal level he is deeply unfulfilled. Mahler's song haunts him, bringing back ugly childhood memories and the strange collection of friends and family who surround him are no help. When an argument with an orchestra member esculates, Alexis finds himself savaged by the media. As his career crumbles he finds himself unable to hold back the darkness within as he descends into madness.
