Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Colonial Tavern: A Glimpse of New England Town Life in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries

All news emanated from the tavern, the town meeting and the town council here assembled, the courts met in solemn dig mity, the traveller full of news from his last stopping place was sometimes here found, and notices for the information of the townsmen were posted on the tavern door. At Medford it was voted that their names posted on the several tavern doors shall be a sufficient notice for jurors.
