Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Churches of Rouen
Comparing the two larger churches, Notre Dame and St. Ouen, with our English cathedrals, we find that they do not differ from the ordinary English type to such an extent as many French cathedrals do. This may possibly be largely due to the fact that Rouen is in Normandy, a duchy which was for a century and a half ruled by one who wore the English crown as well as the Norman coronet, and which even after this time, especially in the early part of the fifteenth century, was largely under English in?uence.
