MY honored friend and brother, the author of this book, was born in Dinwiddie county, Virginia, October 3, 1838, united with the Methodist Church at the age of thirteen, and graduated from randolph-macon College, Va., in 1858, receiving the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Arts. For many years he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the College.
