Publisher's Synopsis
The classic story of danger and survival in the English Civil War. Believed to be burned in their beds, the four children of valiant Colonel Beverley, killed fighting for King Charles, must remove to the forester's cottage in the heart of the New Forest. Disguised as the forester's grandchildren, they learn to hunt, farm, cook and sew to survive - a very different life to the splendours and servants at Arnwood. They adapt cheerfully, always striving to conceal their true identies, but Edward harbours a bitter hatred against the Roundheads and their injustice to his family, and feels a potent desire to avenge his King and country.
