Originally published in French, the 16 refereed papers in this special issue of ICE Proceedings provide a detailed insight into the planning, design and construction of 64 km of tunnels and associated shafts, fixed equipment and terminal buildings on the French side of the 10 billion pound Channel Tunnel project. They were jointly written by senior members of the GIE Transmanche Construction team and were originally published in Travaux, the official journal of the Federation Nationale des Travaux Publics.
