Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Challenge Accepted; Labor Will Not Be Outlawed or Enslaved: Declaration of the Conference of Representatives of National and International Trade Unions, Washington, D. C., February 23-24, 1921
Those 'manifestations of autocratic policy in industry already cited are 1 almost entirely of a purely industrial character. There remain other abuses equally serious, if not more so, finding expression more of. En through our political machinery. Through reactionary dec1s1ons of courts, through the unwarranted and reckless use of the writ of injunction, through laws establishing industrial courts and boards, through compulsory arbitration laws, and through the utter failure of Congress and of state legislative bodies to attempt anything which might serve as a stimulus to labor in these trying times, the Welfare of the entire country and, in fact, the stability of many of our democratic institutions are most seriously menaced. These are matters of paramount interest to every American.
