To know a truly great character is to love him. To know President Hunter is to know one whose character combines so many elements of a superior kind that one must love him though he has difficulty in analyzing his greatness. Intellect, breadth of interest, versatility of talent - all these are attributes. But it is his sympathetic interest in others and his understanding of their problems that make his greatness of soul more apparent and our love for him more real than any other quality to be found. His varied experiences as president of the College for nineteen years and as governor of the Nineteenth District of Rotary International for the past year have made him not only a broader personality but a kindlier, more intensely human individual. His democratic philosophy, which he daily lives, is as contagious as his personality is magnetic.
In June of this year, Wake Forest College, his alma mater, will confer upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.
