Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Caribbean Forester, 1947, Vol. 8

Thorn woodland is abundant throughout most of the dry region of Hispaniola (holdridge, 1945) where the rainfall is less than 30 inches per year. The palo verde type is much more restricted ih-distribution, with the largest stand so far discovered located on the northeast shore of the Gulf of Gonaives. The region selected for the detailed study lies three miles northeast of the city of Gonaives on the trail to terra-neuve, at a place locally known as Soleil, at approximately W. By N. The observations on neighboring plant associations were made wtthin a radius of 10 miles of Gonaives.
