Publisher's Synopsis
The Campaign of 1849 in Piedmont is a companion volume to The Campaign of 1848 in Lombardy, and like the latter, is a reprint of a series of articles of this name that appeared in the United Service Magazine in 1859. Continuing on from where the volume describing the events of 1848 left off, the writer recounts the strategy and plans of campaign of the opposing forces, before dealing with Radetzky's invasion of Piedmont. The major battles at Mortara and Novara are described in detail. Taken together, the two volumes describing the military events in Italy during 1848-49 provide rich detail on these now oft-forgotten campaigns.
