IO grams were placed in Ellenmeyer's flask, covered with 100 c.c. Of the concentrated hydrochloric acid and boiled on a sand bath for one hour, inserting the cork provided with a long glass condensing tube. The contents of the ?ask was then cooled, diluted and filtered. The washed residue was then digested with Lunge's solution (the aqueous solution containing 100 grams of crystallized sodium carbonate and 10 grams of caustic soda in a litre) to extract the amorphous silica set free by the acid.
