Tom and Selina enter the most exciting time of their lives, moving to Birmingham, pregnant, no work and no cash. Within a month, they start a business, find a new home, new friends, new trades, new rules. Selina's daughter grows up in an atmosphere of doing everything Now! Tom finds another love because of the busy lifestyle that he and his wife lead, each working round the clock to improve their survival possibilities in the great city. They move to Bromyard in Herefordshire, renewing strong ties with the friends they had when they had a holiday, working as hop-pickers. They experience losses and gains in their time there. Eventually, they realise that their love for Birmingham had turned them into Brummies though their race to gain greater prosperity had forced them to create the conditions where their friends and employees could enjoy better time too. Selina and Tom feel they are tidying up their lives and the promise of new life in their family finally cements completely their love for each other and their family.
