Recently retired and widowed, Harry Mature vows to do all the things he hasn't been able to do for forty years. One thing leads to another, and he finds himself riding a motorcycle across the continent with old friends.
Accepting an invitation to go trout-fishing in Montana with his crazy girlfriend Karen, he heads north from Las Vegas on his motorcycle. Not far down the road, he crashes into a car. The bike is totaled; Harry escapes with his life and several broken bones.
Facing a slow recovery, he lets his daughter, a lawyer in Georgia, make the arrangements for his rehabilitation. Given his renewed interest in golf, she ships him to The Dunes of St. Andrews, a retirement community with a rehabilitation center and a golf course.
At the Dunes, Harry meets a competitive group of women who play golf and run community activities, like the deadly book club. Willy-nilly, Harry is drawn into a dangerous power struggle that threatens his life.
