Cissy, now a beautiful young woman, undertakes the life of a spy for the deposed Queen, and travels to France. When she meets up with her fickle fiancee, Sir Richard Lovelace, she discovers she is now a woman of means, and escapes with the jewels that Dick purchased with the dowry from Cissy's father. Her adventures continue, complete with encounters with devious but handsome lovers, amorous clergy, and shipwrecks. Cissy's own sense of humour sustains her during her voyages.
