The Black Cat is one of Poe's best-known sinister tales, as well as one of his great psychological tales. The combination of both elements, horror and psychology, seems to lead directly to the expression psychological terror, which we know today inspired by the artistic uniqueness of this author5 and which could be defined as that literary formula that aspires to combine fear, alienation and art. Leaving aside for the moment the alleged autobiographical and superstitious contents, there are three main themes that its author developed in "The Black Cat", and the three are closely related to each other. A young married couple leads a homey and peaceful life with their cat, until the young man begins to get carried away by the drink. Alcohol makes him irascible and in one of his fits of fury ends the life of the animal. A second cat appears on the scene and the family situation begins to crack
